Strength of the child

Most people live and die without discovering their own potential. Your child’s talents lie dormant within them, and life becomes vibrant when they discover these talents at a young age. When we know our areas of talent, no matter how hard we work, it doesn’t feel tiring. It’s when we create opportunities to explore specific areas that we begin to uncover where our potential lies.

Every human has strengths and weaknesses, and our competence lies in the areas we enjoy working on. Unfortunately, the majority of people live and die without realizing their abilities. They spend much of their time blaming fate, ultimately missing out on the joy life can bring. Modern science tells us that children experience a rapid growth spurt for the future, which is why it’s crucial to identify their skills while they are young.

How to Recognize Children’s Abilities

  • Follow Your Child’s Interests
Sometimes a child’s skills and talents will naturally emerge as they pursue their interests. Pay attention to your child’s passions to help discover new abilities. Remember, trial and error is a natural part of this process. Your child may not show immediate talent in something, but having a “growth mindset,” where failures are seen as stepping stones to success, will help them maintain a positive outlook.
  • Talk About Skills
Engage in open and honest conversations with your child about their skills and challenges. This helps them become more aware of their abilities and appreciate their strengths.
  • Notice Your Child’s Successes
Monitor your child’s activities and take note of their successes, whether big or small. Also, keep track of challenges they face as this will help you identify areas where they may need support.
  • Recognize Different Types of Skills
Children possess various skills, some more obvious than others. While abilities like drawing or playing games are easier to spot, skills like being a good listener or working well in groups may be harder to identify. Highlighting these softer skills is important for their growth and development.

When a child’s skills are recognized, they tend to improve through focus and repetition. This also enhances their intrinsic motivation.

Traits to Observe in Your Child

Look out for qualities your child can perform easily. Help them identify activities they enjoy and excel at, such as:

  • Personal Traits
Honesty, reliability, kindness, resilience, curiosity, and social skills such as sharing, making friends, and being a good listener. These traits are just as important as technical abilities.
  • Language Skills
Your child may have a talent for using words to express themselves, enjoying conversations, telling stories, and learning new vocabulary.
  • Literacy Skills
Look for an interest in reading, retelling stories, making predictions while reading, and connecting personal experiences to texts.
  • Mathematics and Logic
Your child may show strength in recognizing patterns, solving puzzles, doing mental math, or enjoying strategic games like chess.
  • Study Skills
These include goal-setting, planning ahead, concentrating on tasks, problem-solving, working in groups, and having a growth mindset.
  • Other Skills
Creativity, music, sports, and a love for activities like playing with animals, making people laugh, or solving problems in video games.

By observing these traits and guiding your child towards activities they enjoy, you can help them unlock their potential and develop their talents in a meaningful way.
